At OhMD, our mission is simple: make connecting with your doctor as easy as possible. No phone trees. No portals. No endless hold music. Just fast, secure, human-centered communication.

That’s why we’re excited to share two highlights in our work with Twilio: a Twilio Partner Spotlight and recognition from Twilio’s CEO Khozema Shipchandler during a recent Motley Fool interview. Both show how our partnership helps shape the future of AI in healthcare.

Why healthcare needs voice AI now

Phone sits on an empty desk with a text overlay that reads 40% of patient calls go unanswered.

Patient calls keep rising. Nearly 40 percent of patient calls go unanswered. At the same time, staffing remains tight. MGMA’s benchmark data shows front-office staff turnover reached 40 percent in 2022, with 33 percent for clinical and business support roles.

The U.S. is also on track for a physician shortfall of up to 86,000 doctors by 2036.

On the access side, the AMA highlights steps practices are taking to reduce call volume and admin work, like online scheduling and better inbox workflow design. These strategies show the demand for tools that can offload routine patient calls while keeping care personal.

Combining secure texting, omnichannel messaging, and Nia, our voice AI assistant, practices on OhMD can manage growing call volume while freeing up staff for calls that matter most.

A partnership built on innovation

When we teamed up with Twilio, our goal was clear: build scalable, secure, HIPAA-compliant tools that make communication easier for patients and staff.

With Twilio powering our infrastructure, we launched Nia. Nia handles high-volume tasks like scheduling, prescription refills, FAQs and resolves routine needs in real time. More complex calls get routed to staff.

Recognition from Twilio’s CEO

In an interview with Motley Fool, Twilio CEO Khozema Shipchandler highlighted how OhMD brings AI and empathy together to improve patient access:

“What we’re starting to see with OhMD is that they’ve got a 60 percent lift in self-serve capability to actually resolve calls. They’re able to drive the conclusion of these calls in less than a minute in many instances.”

He also noted that by 2026, OhMD is projected to support more than 55 million patient interactions annually through AI-powered voice.
